dance in the dark
So it is coming to that time again, it's been about four months and I am thinking I should worm my girls again. Nowadays I am up to 19 (including the four chick) but that IS IT I PROMISE (or so that's what I keep telling my parents) anyway, so I will be worming my hens in the standard fashion with Marriages layers with Flubenvet, now, I got my most recents two sets of girls (two naked necks and two whites stars) two weeks and two days ago respectively. Only one of the naked necks has started laying (starting on Saturday and currently three eggs in three days) and the other three are yet to lay. The new girls are pretty much seperate at the moment, certainy during the day (a bit of playtime/fighting in the evening) and I am wondering if I should worm them too, since there will be enough food for them, and it'll be not good by the time I get round to the next worming season. I know there is no egg withdrawal or anything with flubenvet, but I basically just want reassurance that it will be fine to use it with hens that are just coming into lay. I know I am being stupid, but I just want to check, and be told it's the right thing to do, unless it isn't... I hope that all made sense and you don't feel cheated by it being a stupid amount of typing for such a poultry (pun intended) question! The Dogmother
Yup, worm them all at the same time and disinfect the soil in the run while you're at it.
dance in the dark
Oh don't worry, I will be disinfecting the soil. I have my big old tub of ground sanitizing powder, which is frequently in use. I have never seen any real evidence of worms with any of my girls, but I like to think it's because I worm them very regularly and use the sanitizing powder, and they have quite a lot of space (even with the chicks its about 6 Metres Sq per chicken).AND I recently splashed out on 6 metres of fresh turf for them to destroy at their leisure, I feel I am too good to them!) Anyway I am off to order my flubenvet pellets!
