BeckyBoo
Hi there, not that a watched pot never boils or anything but we've been watching Rainbow go in and out of the nest box all morning, sometimes she's in for 10 minutes, sometimes 2 now it's been about half an hour. So, pacing up and down like an expectant mother, I looked through the main door as I could see her sitting there all puffed up, and she's picking up the Aubiose in her mouth and covering her back in it. Apart from "because she's mad" anybody any idea why she's doing this? This will be her first and she HAS to produce something before 2.30 as that's when I'm off on school run and then to work so I HAVE to know!! Mrs Bertie - three !egg!s so far today, 12 in the last 5 days (yippee!!) and maybe even a 4 day if we're really really lucky, come on Rainbow!! beach chick
sounds like she's thinking about it! hope you've got the cigar ready for afterwards?! (re the chucking things about, all of mine are most particular -NO, we DONT want straw in the nesting box!)
Egluntyne
Certainly sounds as if an egg is imminent!
Hen Watch
My Gingernuts never showed any signs of iminent laying (or not that I noticed anyway). But my Miss Pepperpot did the crouching for ages before the first egg arrived and she threw aubiose onto her back for a few days too. The others didn't do that however I did have straw in the nest box before I saw the light with aubiose.
Snowy
What is it with straw in the nest box? If I use straw, Bella rushes straight in and drags it all out again. Then goes and lays her eggs in the bushes! She doesn't bother about shredded paper. And I've seen mine throw aubiose and bark chips over their backs. Laura & CTB
What is it with straw in the nest box? If I use straw, Bella rushes straight in and drags it all out again. Yet Gucci does the opposite - she sits in the nest box and picks up all the stray bits of straw on the roosting bars and puts them back in the nest with her
