chuckmum6
My chicks are approaching three weeks, they are 3 black Pekins, a Lavendar and a home grown mixed Wyandotte. However two of my black Pekins look rather like the cat has chewed them and spat them out! Their feathers stick out and turn up a bit, they are not smooth and streamlined like my others, nor any others I've hatched before, so I suspect Frizzles! When I google frizzle Pekins they look rather like my untidy looking chicks, I will try and post a pic, once the torrential rain has passed. Anyone who has hatched out frizzle Pekins can you tell me what yours looked like at three weeks please . I had a frizzle when I was five, called Emu, he was rather sickly, are they a pain to keep? Tweety
I think your suspicions may be correct, by the sound of it! I have hatched some pure breed Frizzles, and it was fairly obvious at 3 weeks which ones were frizzled and which were smooth feathered. They are no more difficult to keep than any others in my experience, but they do need access to shelter from the rain.

craftyhunnypie
No frizzle pekins aren't sicky - they are a lot more hardy than most of my flock put together! However mine go broody a lot. Little madams! You can usual tell frizzling at about 4 to 5 days on chicks, as the wing feather tips start to curl. I adore frizzles. The more mature they get, the more beautiful they will become. I like how the frizzling makes a sort of mane round their heads. Cute! You lucky thing! I am so aiming for & wanting a white frizzle.
