williamspencer98
As Prudence died last night, sadly, we're going to get 2 more to make our flock back up to its original 6. I still have my suspicisions as to what killed her. I think it was gapeworm. She kept extending her neck and opening her neck to breath. It made a whistling, kind of hissing noise when she did this. The man where I got the hen from said that she was wormed, which would mean it wasn't gapeworm but I've read somewhere that you need to worm them reguarly? We'd had her just over 2 months. What breeds shall I get? See my siginiture for my current breeds I have. RIP Prudence Spencer
Ain't Nobody Here
Did he say what he wormed them with? Unless it was Flubenvet it won't have been effective and even then, you have to administer a double dose for gapeworm. I worm my girls every 3 months. angeluk69
I was advised (by the same person) to worm as soon as I got them, and tbh I will now be worming all birds when i introduce new ones from now on. I know the pellets from there are impregnated with Flubenvet (to answer ANH's q) and I used the same pellets from there. I have however decided when it comes to worming next time around I shall attempt mixing my own, and if that doesnt go too well, I shall be changing to Marriages. I hope you get some lovely new girls, and don't forget pics
Mrs_B
So sorry to hear about Prudence I haven't wormed mine yet (had them over a week) but by the sounds of things I might do just to ensure I don't run into any problems. Like 'Ain't "Ooops, word censored!"ody Here' says, I would check what your chickens were wormed with. Look forward to hearing about your new girls. x
