Luvachicken Posted July 14, 2012 Share Posted July 14, 2012 My chicks are in the main run inside a separate rabbit run with the 2 older girls being able to look in and walk nearby. The last few days I've noticed a strange noise I've not heard before coming from the bigger girls right up close to the chicks. They kind of growl or purr at them, I can't decide if it is a friendly noise or not. Every time I go to look to see what is going on the 2 older ones comes running and I'm not going to sit in the rain waiting for them to do it. They look like they might be after the chicks' food or that they just want to eat them The chicks have been in there for quite a while now so they should be used to them really. mimi5 Posted July 14, 2012 Share Posted July 14, 2012 Hi there. I can't be 100% sure in your girls case, but my pekins made that kind of rolling purr sound whilst with their chicks. Milly particulairly when snuggling down for the night with them. Very sweet. She also makes that noise when she is particularly enjoying a good old dust bath in the sunshine!!!!(oh she and I both wish at the mo!!) And it definitely doesn't sound like that. It will soon be the summer holidays for me and then maybe I can do some free time with them all. I'm running 2 pens at the mo (was running 3 when the chicks were younger, before I re-homed the boys and put the older girl and little ones together!!!!) Leeloo Posted July 15, 2012 Share Posted July 15, 2012 Mine freeze and make a growling/purring noise when there's an aerial predator nearby. They did it last night and I looked around for the hawk.
