Daphne
I have 4 chili plants indoors, all about a foot high and just beginning to come into flower. What should I do now - do I need to feed with anything?
sjp
feed them the same as tomatoes (with tomato feed) starting once the fruit as set once a week
Leicester_H
Hi I've been growing chillies (outdoors) for a couple of years now - using those small plastic green house thingies - worked well but difficult to keep them cool on hot days. So I got a small greenhouse last year. Am growing 8(?) different varieties this year (mostly for fun) - some are 4 feet tall !! I THINK that tomato feed should be half strength for chillies - this forum has details somewhere http://www.southdevonchillifarm.co.uk/forum/9-growing-chillies Don't throw them away - overwinter them - they'll have a head start next year! H (PS - I'm Leicester Hazel on the chilli forum)
Hayleybug
you should still get fruits this year its not too late, dont feed them until the fruit starts to form and the flower petals recede otherwise you will probably just encourage the flowers to stay for longer.once the fruits start you can use tomato feed, ive always just used it the same strength as with tomatoes and not had any probs. if you get to october and you are still only getting flowers it is best to follow above advice and try to overwinter them and hope you get early fruits next year
Leicester_H
There is special food for chillies - I didn't think it would make much difference but it really does http://www.southdevonchillifarm.co.uk/shop/chill-focus-plant-food.html H
Daphne
I've got 2 or 3 fat chilis per plant, I think its some sort of 'banana chili' which is meant to be mild but I liked the idea of a large pod which I could possibly stuff. I am using 50% tomato feed, once a week. I feel very pleased with myself as my outdoor veg has suffered really badly this summer so at least I have something to bring to the table! Thank you for all the advice, I am inspired to do more next year and will investigate all the options. I was worried that I'd get poor pollination as I have with tomatoes grown inside, but that doesn't seem to have been a problem
