Advice please

Hi

Looking for some advice :)

1 of my Light Sussex has dirty feathers around her her bum and under her belly!!

She has always loved her dust bath even when its raining and its just mud. At times its hard to tell what colour she is

Lately she is looking very dirty so checked for lice or mites but all clear. I have thought of trying to clean her but she hates to be caught so when i need to check her i wait till she is roosting but i dont want to try and wash her and put her back in damp also i have never tried to wash a chicken before :!:

I gbe my girls a bath on Saturday - was actually a lot easier than I thought! I used a washing up bowl, warm water and a wee squirt of baby shampoo. One of them sat down quite happy in it but the dirty one, although staying still, stood up so I would make sure bowl deep enough to reach dirty bits as was a bit of a pain to splash. Took a while to dry though so might be worth fetching out I nestbox/roost in morning and bathing if you can. Good luck!

I use a washing up bowl too and a bit of Carex (or similar). Ebay will stand in the water but Phoebe will not tolerate it so she stands at the side. I just wash their 'undercarriage' and towel dry. They tend to give themselves a good shake and fluff. I only do it when it's warm so they dry off (although last winter they got so muddy I washed them and they dried off inside). Good luck
