Henergy
Well its no surprise really that my grass has gone. Last year it was quite resistant to the scratching of the feathered crew, but the rain has just meant that they are scratching in total mud now. I reseeded an area & it grew lovely while we were away on hols but it only took a week for that to disappear. I've not been on the forum much of late so sorry if this has been covered recently, but is there anything I can do to save my grass ? Olly
Don't let them free range so much. Sorry, but that is an honest answer! I believe someone on here has laid that sort of mesh underneath the grass, which stops them scratching. I restrict my hens free range time, and don't let them out when it's really wet. Lewis
My lot free range quite a lot of the time but less so when its raining 'cos you can see a real difference in the grass if they are when its wet, especially around the door and path to the run. I reseeded a chunk where I had a run last year which is really shaded under some trees thats never properly grown back, we've been away for a week and the grass is looking really good up there again. They have the top half of the garden which can be separated into 2 areas so if its looking bad we can just put them in the other bit. Most people use 4ft high Omlet netting, I use 2ft metal panels and they never jump over apart from Justine the Ex-Batt!
