Tucked tail

Recommended Posts

I have had a bit of a bad run with chooks and might be super paranoid, but Buffy just won't seem to lift her tail. She seems perfectly happy and healthy in all other ways - eyes bright, eating, drinking etc Also leading the others around when they aren't all trying to hide under her! She had a rough weekend arriving, spending Saturday being pinned and pecked by a big girl and Sunday greeting 2 new babies (I guess they are all about 10 weeks, but not sure). I'm hoping it's just the stress of the move and she will perk her wee tail up. I put lifeguard in their water yesterday but have switched to citrocidal as there have been a couple of sneezes. Was wondering about nutri drops but can't face forcing her tiny beak open - could I mix them with a yummy treat? The only other thing I wondered is if I am being daft and this is quite normal for a youngster!? Thanks in advance for any advice.

In my experience, there is always a problem if a hen has her tail down, even if she appears fine in all other respects.

It sounds as if the stress of the move might have something to do with it and, if there is some sneezing going on, I would take her to a vet if she doesn't improve very soon. Did you get her from a breeder? If so, it might be worth ringing them too.

Have spoken to breeder and she says tucked tail not good. Her concern was my big welsummer might have injured her, I'm going to check her over again when I go home but I couldn't see or feel anything before. She also said they are prone to stress and hopefully she might perk up - I really really hope so. Will phone vet if she doesn't look any better when I get home - unfortunately it is a decent distance away so I don't want to put her through another journey if it is stress.
