Hi all, I have been looking into getting a larger chicken coup, however, the cube is way beyond our budget and wondered if anyone had converted a shed? Ideas, plans and photos would be extremely helpful if anyone has any? Thanks. x

Thanks thats great, they look like simple effective ideas. We are thinking that a shed of that size would be ideal.

Worked really well for us but we now have a Cube and Go. Only reason for swapping was I was getting back ache cleaning out. It's used for storing the chicken stuff in now.

 

Also, if you do a search of my posts I'm sure there are some other photo's of the work in progress. We used our old shed. Took the felt roof off and replaced it with onduline and treated it but apart from that it was really easy to do.

I think the bit "Took the felt roof off and replaced it with onduline" is pretty key if you want to avoid red mite which sadly shed conversions do suffer from. Also make sure that any perches you put in can be removed easily and are not nailed in permanently.

Yes, we did it as knew red mite like felt. Mind you cubes can still get them. Key is to be vigilant.

We are fairly vigilant with checking for red mite, I use the powder whenever I clean out. But changing the roof is a good idea, thanks. x
