lots and lots of bloodspots

Recommended Posts

A new problem I've not seen before

Just used quite a few eggs from my 18 month old warrens

Pretty much all of them have bloodspots, but a lot of them have loads and loads tiny bloodspots 'freckled' all the way thro the albumen.

These tended to be large eggs that looked beautiful on the outside!

This is something new and rather disconcerting

I suppose it is possible that they are about to go into the moult and it is upsetting the egg laying tract :?

Normally the received wisdom is that blood spots in eggs are genetic, but from what you say they weren't doing this before. This is the time of year for moulting and your birds are the right age to need a feather change. Is egg laying and shell quality a bit erratic in general at the moment with them?

They're 18 months old and haven't moulted yet, so yes, could be that. There have been occasional bloodspots in the eggs since forever, but this is just about every egg with the white just freckled with dozens of tiny bloodspots, as well as a few eggs with rather yeukky *big* bloodspots and one with a reddy/browny 'smear' . All generally a bit :vom:
