Quick rat query

Recommended Posts

I think we may have some sort of vermin in the run  Although I haven't seen any evidence my Yorkie, Daisy is attracted to a particular spot and has dug a huge crater. I am going to assume the worst. I have bought a bait box but my concern is that if slugs go for the bait and are then eaten by the hens will they (the hens) not be poisoned too :?: Would love some advice before I deal with this. Thanks. Alli x

I hadn't considered slugs as a poison transfer method....I hope somebody comes up with an answer Alli....I still baulk at the idea of poison as I've found dead, possibly poisoned rats in the middle of my garden and greenhouse where my labs go  ....too big a risk imho....trouble is I can't keep up with my air rifle, so other methods are going to have to be explored :( ...been told I'm not allowed a JRT, & knowing my luck I'd get a soft pudding anyway

I have considered this as I have a bait box and when I checked it last it was covered in slime trails inside! I now put a trap inside the box instead as this year slugs seem to be everywhere when I let the dogs out last thing at night the WIR is covered in slugs especially the leopard ones so I have been collecting them and relocating although they may do a good job of getting rid of the chicken poo! I haven't noticed this before so I'm hoping its due to this years wet weather.
