Groovychook
Oh, I'll be glad when the frosts come and kill of all the pesky slugs We've been completely overrun with them this year! It's bad enough having to pick them out of the pellets and around the rim of the grubs... but when they get wedged in the holes at the back... I've spent more time than I care to remember over the past few months, trying to prise them out with a long pointy stick. I'm starting to think of ways of blocking up the holes with something. Maybe Omlet should start selling some sort of bung!!
daxigirl
Eeugh, they're just horrid aren't they. I swear some of the ones in my garden are at least 8" and seem to be immune to all attempts to kill them (well except perhaps the impaling or stamping, although the stamping can be a little slippery if your not careful). I'm glad the banties all put themselves to bed and don't sit on the floor of their run. Doesn't bare thinking about.
Indispensable Hobbes
I have no experience of using it but you can get self-adhesive copper tape for gardening. Would this help? It will not kill them but passes a tiny electrical charge sufficient to deter them from crossing the tape thus protecting your crop.
Groovychook
Good thinking! Maybe I could stick a band of it around the grubs. Worth a try!
UKMARCH
I've been thinking of getting some too as we've had loads too especially the leopard ones I think it was all that wet weather early on normally we don't but have the large snails but I haven't seen any snails this year. I don't use the grub but have found slugs in the moulding on the glug and have spotted loads when I let the dogs out last thing at night! I thought the copper tape would go well along the bottom of the wooden WIR but not sure if it would stick they would probably find another way in I wish they would concentrate on the poo more rather than any food! charly1979
Either I have super hard slugs but I've found that the copper tape was a waste of time Wish there was a way to rid my garden of the ********* as they got into our treadle feeder and glugged it up poor chooks
