Alis girls
My OH's late dad was a lacemerchant from Cyprus. When he died my OH inherited what was left ( a heck of a lot). Sadly the market has plummeted in lace - when we went to Cyprus this summer shops were still selling it but the days of little old ladies sewing the stuff outside their houses are long gone. Hes tried putting it on Ebay. Even the Yanks dont seem interested. Any bright ideas. I wish I was more of a needle woman as I can see when its mixed with other fabrics it could make some lovely clothes as a topping over say silk, satin or linen - I noticed BHS are advertising a lovely lacey peplum top( machine lace) This is hand made. So any bright ideas Omleteers would be gratefully received. Ta Ali x
soapdragon
Have you thought of approaching your local college to see if they have a fashion design course whose students may love to use it? Women's Institute (there seem to be some scarily clever dressmakers there!) Is it suitable for wedding dresses - maybe a local dressmaker would be able to use it? Good luck! Alis girls
Thanks Soapdragon - the college might be an idea. I think it might be too thick and heavy for wedding dresses but who knows - these days anything would make a dress - even meat (Lady Gaga!!) We have a local college - might look at that. Some is slightly damaged (mouse ) so we would have to sell it cheaper - it launders ok - washed some in a lingerie bag at 30 degrees and OH ironed it on a towel. lets face it if its going to be cut up it doesnt matter. My OH blames a well known store for dissing chintzy stuff - but lets face it Kath Kidston and laura Ashley are still going strong.
