ionian1
I recall reading somewhere that people put sand down in runs to make it easier to clean out and it has the advantage of drying quickly. Has anyone done this? If so which type of sand is best to buy. Many thanks.
Cheeky Chooky
I don't know about the use of sand on run floors I'm afraid but I use Play Sand in my chook's dust baths
zakjon-98
I use wood chip and that keeps the run from being water logged and is pretty easy to shovel out. You can also get it free from tree surgeons.
CheekyPekins
My chicken bible ("Keeping Chickens for Dummies"...) suggests sand as a flooring material for the run, saying it's absorbent - I'm glad you asked the question, as my OH is building a nearly-WIR and we're debating re. material for the run flooring! Lots of people on here seem to recommend wood chippings, if that helps. Or Aubiose, if your run is covered
