clucker1
Sometimes the eggs are a bit dirty and sometimes they have poo on (if the little darlings sleep in the nest box and lay an egg early am, before we get out there to remove the poo.) Should I be washing the eggs with some product similar to the one Omlet sell, or what? Any one any idea what happens in the commercial world? Olly
In theory, you shouldn't wash eggs because it removes the protective coating on the shell. However, one of my hens has been sleeping in the nest box again and they've often laid (when they ARE laying ) before I can get there in the morning to change the bedding. If it's a little bit muddy I leave it on, I think it adds to the authenticity! However, sometimes mine are really dirty and I don't want to sell them like that, nor do I want to store them in my kitchen. I just wipe them with a damp cloth in that case, or a bit of damp kitchen towel. I don't wash them otherwise.
zakjon-98
I do the same as Olly. If there is only a bit of mud I leave it on but if its too dirty I use a sheet of kitchen towl and warm water.
