I got my first egg from my bantam Orpington today - so happy, as I was told Orpingtons take forever to mature so I wasn't expecting an egg til the spring

One of my bantams that hatched at Easter has started to lay, others had said I may have to wait to the spring, the others haven't laid yet.

 

How big is a bantam Orpington egg? The Wyandotte egg is about 30g so sweet.

It's about the size of a small supermarket egg (if that makes sense!) I'd never thought of weighing it

On my not terribly precise scales, it comes up as 55g? Does that sound right? I weighed a Medium Sainsbury's free range egg too and that was 65g on my scales....

We had a 2nd egg off her today and same weight again... Bless her, they're decent sized eggs and a lot bigger than the eggs I had from my Pekin

My light sussex's eggs aren't much bigger than that and she's huge - sussex hens weigh 7lb's! Sound like your having more eggs than me at the moment, mine have given up pretty much
