Purplemaniacs
I have started knitting again and have had a little go at crochet. I was wondering if anyone has a pattern to make a poppy. Last year at school one of the Mums had a lovely red poppy that a friend had made which I admired, this year I would like to have a go and see if I could make one. bluekarin
If you Google it quite a few come up. Depends what you are looking for really. I have found this one which looks fairly simple and quite pretty. I look forward to seeing the end result

Snowy
I made this one last year: Instructions: Petals (make 4 in scarlet DK, think I used 4mm needles) Cast on 7 stitches 1st row: (right side) knit 2nd row: kfb (knit in the front and the back of the stitch to make 2 stitches), knit to last 2 stitches, kfb, knit 1 (9 stitches) 3rd row: As 2nd row (11 stitches) 4th row: As 2nd row (13 stitches) 5th - 8th rows: knit 9th row: skpo (slip one, knit one, pass slipped stitch over) twice, knit to last 4 stitches, knit 2 together twice (9 stitches) 10th - 12th rows: knit 13th row: as 9th row (5 stitches) 14th - 16th rows: knit 17th row: knit 1, slip 1 knitwise, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over, knit 1 (3 stitches) 18th row: knit. Cast off. Centre: using moss green DK yarn: cast on 16 stitches. Cast off. Sew petals together in pairs by joining the cast off edges, then place one pair over the other in a cross formation. Coil the centre into a tight spiral and sew into the centre. Using black yarn, and french knots, embroider the poppy stamens (mine in the picture are too long, the knots need to be much closer to the centre.) Unfortunately the red is too vivid - it didn't photograph very well! You can close it up a bit more by adding a tiny stitch at the back of the petals to bring them closer together which gives it a bit more shape. I'm sure you could all make a better job of it than this as well! Mine is attached to my handbag and is always admired.
