My ES has asked for an electric shaver for Christmas. He's asked for one that will shave but leave a bit of stubble - OH hasn't used an electric shaver for years so is clueless and I'm not sure what feature I need to look for.

 

Any ideas, anyone (or anyone's OH!)?

You (not you personally I hope) need hair clippers not a shaver, with different guards.

you can then have a number 1 or 2 or, you get the idea. Most razors with trimmers are not up to the job of

leaving 'designer stubble'

How weird I've been puzzling over electric razors today for my sons. YS is 13 and has dark upper lip fuzz, ES 16 needs a proper shave but since he's blond gets away with stubble for a while. They need to be clean shaven for school though - no designer stubble. I have no clue what to buy and OH uses wet razor so no help ES has been using a regular razor but I suspect he might shave more often if he had an electric shaver.

 

So any suggestions ? I'm confused by the difference between rotating heads and foils

OH now has a beard, and loves his beard trimmer. It can leave designer stubble or trim beard to any length. OH trims the sides shorter than the bit on his chin, for reasons not known to me!

 

Just checked and it is a Remington, was about £20 earlier in the year, and can leave hairs 1mm long to 8mm long (and any length in between), as far as I can see.

Anything by Philips with a rotary head, leaves a nice smooth, clean shaven face. Something like this is perfect.

The foil is just the 'foil' between the skin and the blade.

I would say for a youngster buy a decent quality, but don't go over the top. Throw it away and get another when it gets worn.

 

We used to call the bum fluff stage, the cat and butter shave.

Spread some butter on the chin, and let the cat lick it off.
