jrsankanu Posted January 2, 2013 Share Posted January 2, 2013 Dont always believe your vet! i have come to realise. 10 days before xmas my ex bat was struggling to stand up for more than a few seconds, i thought i was going to loose her it was a sunday afternoon. i brought her inside and gave her some fresh garlic which she loved and washed her feet and legs with a cloth of tea tree solution. monday morning she seemed happier and could stand ok for alot longer. i presumed that maybe she could have arthritis but wanted to take her and check at the vets... his answer she wasnt made to live long ...and might have nerve damage.. best option is to have her put down... my answer angrily is so what is the other option? he said i could try antibiotics i said we'll do that then. on arriving home i opened the package to find large inch sized tablets for Dogs! anyway i found that she was eventually happy to eat them off the floor with cheese rather than administer by vet instructions and break up and push them into her beak! after 3 weeks of living in the house she is now happy and back with the others and a extreme cube jacket . and has enjoyed her xmas and new year buffet ! if anyone knows a good hen experienced vet in manchester area can you please let me know. Home remedies & tlc helped my ex batts on a number of occasions (as well as the vet on others) It was a roller coaster but they had nearly 2 years of freedom. Hope she contines to improve! Full life still she's still only small he said underweight but she also loves her food and holds her own with my stroppy boss white star who think she owns the garden. My mum had a poorly goose Ruby Red recently she took her to a very expiernced vet who carried out bood tests, the results indicated that she was incredibly ill, anemic lacking iron etc he told mum she needed to be PTS but mum had a gut feeling not to do so as Ruby had already improved, mum had sepearted her put her in an old chicken ark so she could moniter her etc made her warm mash concoxtions with polutry spice, honey garlic and other bits. Well it wasnt long before she was back fighting fit. All 6 geese now get a mash dish weekly. Dad is sure that Ruby had eaten some ivy and that this may have caused the illness. The vet was only doing what his years of training and the results were indicating too but so lucky not to have lost Ruby, dont get me wrong my mum wouldnt see any of her animals suffer and had there not been any signs of Ruby improving it would have been a differnt story Good luck with your girls for the future xx Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jrsankanu Posted January 3, 2013 Author Share Posted January 3, 2013 sounds like similar story im thinking that vets still dont see that we love our hens as pets and treat them as such. instead of just livestock. im glad i went with my instinct and although i will still go to the vets for an opinion or treatment i will also still look into other options. i will also continue to make tuna vol u vents for parties even though humans dont like them my hens love them! thanks all and a happy new year Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
