Anything that kills a slug or snail will not be good for a chicken: I don't think that there is any such thing as a safe slug pellet. On the other hand, I wouldn't have thought that a few slug pellets would harm a hen, and they might even be sensible enough not to eat them.

I've always avoided slug pellets before, but this year has been something different, and I have succumbed in the last week. I have never seen so many snails. Thankfully I have sandy soil, and rarely see a slug. But the snails have caused several of my favourite plants to disappear, especially the delphiniums. I hate them!

I have had to use slug pellets on my beans as they were being decimated!:twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted:

Following advice on this board i bought Growing success Advanced slug killer pellets. Which are not only Child and pet safe but state on the box that they are certified for organic use!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

They have been effective nad I now have a few flowers on my beans and no evidence that the slugs were ever feasting on them.

I used nematodes last year, with excellent results. - put them on my spuds, which I earth up with grass cuttings (slug heaven!). this year, I didnt get round to getting them in time, and the weather was dreadful, blah blah blah...

my spuds are not nearly as good as last year - I had no rotten ones last year and at least 10 this time. also, the potato leaves have been compeltely stirpped this year, which didnt happen last time.

have also got some allegedly organic slug pellets - the slugs and snails eat them and then go and die underground. they seem to be working, can check if anyone wants to knwo the brand!! (sorry, meant to be workign at mo...)

I wouldn't trust any slug pellets to be safe for pets. I did some research into this recently and although some slug pellets are supposed to be safe, I'm not sure they are.... unfortunately my research was due to a dog having been poisoned with something  very possibly slug pellets (pet friendly ones)
