Ena's getting better! (touch wood)

Recommended Posts

At the weekend I posted about Ena who was suddenly unable to stand.

Well she's been living in the bath for a week and seems to be improving

She can stand now for short times (a massive improvement) and then her legs seem to forget what they're for again.

She's been fed some metacam, some antibiotic, limestone flour, probiotic and lots of TLC - and been wormed for good measure!

She never looked ill, apart from the weird can't stand thing

If she keeps progressing she should be ok to go back with Edna, who seems to miss her

So - are there likely to be any problems reintroducing her? Or do hens have good memories for each other?

Thanks for asking :)

Ena's still in the bath...

She's still a bit unsteady, so I've postponed putting her back outside while there's so much snow around

Loved the idea of bringing Edna in for a visit but the henhouse is frozen solid - the poor thing is confined to barracks! We'll all be very glad to see the end of this weather I think!

Happily Ena finally got better.

It was very up and down, and at the end of the cold spell Edna looked all floppy too - so they both got to spend a couple of days in the bath together!

At my first attempt to put Ena back out side she just sat on the lawn and wouldn't go anywhere, so she got another couple of days in 'hospital'

But she's been back in the coop for 3 days now; she's not 100% steady on her legs, but can get up and down the ladder easily and had a good scratch around in the old compost heap when I let them out for a quick FR and seems properly perky.

I was so sure at at least 2 points she wouldn't make it, so am very pleased that perseverance, TLC and sacrifice of my bath for 3 weeks paid off!
