Hello Chicken peeps

 

The Surrey Poultry Club is having a show, poultry and eggs, on Saturday 2nd Feb near Guildford, just round the corner from "Rokers"of Garvo stocking fame. Entries close on 28th Jan (I think). They have a website but it's not always updated, they're lovely to chat to though if you want to phone and enquire. There's cups, rosettes and cards, a raffle and cakes and bacon rolls. It's also open to the public after 12:30ish.

Surrey is always a nice show. Sadly I cant make this one though

 

I'd encourage anyone local to have a go if they are interested in showing, its a nice friendly show and the organisers are very helpful

Oo no it's just a club one not the big county show, that's the last bank hol Monday in May.

Hmmmm, might go to that - it is near my birthday, and be a nice day out. I could even enter dear little Queenie's eggs.

I would enter Queenie but she has had some of her neck feathers stolen. The others are jealous of her beauty I think.

So, what would you have to do to enter some eggs? Complete beginner here at this kind of thing? My Skyline does lay very pretty eggs, but there again so probably does everyone elses!

There is some useful info on the link below, its not for Surrey show, in your case the eggs will be judged by the officlal judge only and the classes may be different but it gives you a rough idea

Thanks for posting this, I'm in Surrey and would like to show my chickens but they are quite muddy at the minute. Maybe in the summer though. Might go as public though.

So have sent in my entries, decided upon taking

 

Miss' Kitty, Evil Edna, Mavis, PeeWee, Costa and maybe Sprocket and some eggs are going.

 

So will be doing a bit of feet washing and sprucing up on Friday, won't clean the kitchen window till afterwards (learnt that lesson ).

 

Look forward to seeing anybody else.

The girls did well. Mavis got a 1st, PeeWee & Kitty got a 3rd each, Evil Edna was an also ran. Didn't take the other two.

 

Got Best Eggs with silverware & rosettes, 1sts, 2nds & 3rds on the other entries so very .

 

Spent a fortune at Rokers stocking up. Lovely day out.

Had a nice day out everything was placed which was okay considering I came back from uni at 9 last night to 2 lf eggs when i had entered a few more...!

BIS was Jim Owen with a large black hen (the breed of which has gone completely out of my head!)

Looking forward to the kent show next week now!

Coming back again from uni for Kent too! Might be slightly more organised as it is on the sunday and i have left my family with a list of things i have entered!

 

I haven't bred them for a couple of years as I haven't had the time/ hadn't had a broody at the right time! But i am hoping that I can get some more hens this year and start breeding again as the ends i have aren't brilliant but the cockerals are better! I lost a couple of hens last year so am looking to eventually replace them!
