Jenthelibrarian
After weeks of wet and cold we had a mild day here today and even a little sunshine I was seriously beginning to wonder if my dear hens had forgotten the outside world, they hated the snow and recently 'out' has been for ten minutes while I do food, water, nest straw and poop tray. Yesterday they had snow settling on their backs as they half-heartedly scratched under the bird table for pickings while I did the necessary and then sent them home before frostbite set in. Today, however, it's back to normal - happy hens back to themselves, perched on my lap for mealworms, stealing a swig of my coffee and chatting to me as they follow me around the garden. I know this weather won't last, but it was lovely to see a little break in the gloom Roll on spring!
mimi5
SO know what you mean!!! My pekins have been stir crazy cooped up in their run!!! They've been churning up the wood chip and digging great big holes!!! So as I unexpectedly finished work early today I came home and let them out!! They went mad eating the grass like they'd never seen grass before!! I'm affraid they didn't get long either as it ...started to rain!! Please let spring come soooooon!!! Auntie FiFi
Wasn't it lovely to see the sunshine - my new rescue chicks were utterly miserable yesterday as it was sooo cold. Today, however, they were much happier and Delilah even laid her first egg in her new home! Roll on Spring! x
Chortle Chook
Wasn't it sheer bliss? No room for me however on my garden bench as all my chickens were sat on it in the sun
suebee
How funny... I was about to post about this myself. I agree totally... Today has been utter bliss for the hens, and therefore for me watching them. I haven't seen them this relaxed for what seems like months. They so enjoyed themselves today. The wild birds were singing too, and I think the bit of warmth and sunshine lifted everyone's spirits.
charly1979
At the begining of the week we had glorius sunshine but my girls run was in the shade (we have a north facing gardent) I ran out the front did a temp run for them and then carried all 7 to the run , need to train them to follow a jug of corn like my mums geese I did try but they are easily distracted !! They had a whale of a time sunshine, fresh grass, the odd passer by admiring them and of course I stupidly gave them access to my flower bed the one that last spring I spent ages putting membrane down and chippings. Well you have guessed it they dived in and yes membrane and chippings are now on the lawn !!! Still they had fun and wont really take long to rectify
