Best time for anti peck spray ?

Recommended Posts

When is the best time of day to spray a chicken with anti peck spray ?

Is it best first thing so the chicken is fresh of anti peck or better in the evening so she can dry overnight ?

Also, she has mostly been pecked around the top of her head and is quite bare, but the instructions say to keep away from eyes. How can I spray her without getting it in the wrong place ?

Good point luvachicken...I bought some anti peck spray to apply to a girl's comb, that was the pecking target, and after reading about keeping it away from eyes, I didn't use it.

Could you spray some onto a disposable gloved finger, and wipe it on her head? I wondered if the vapour would sting the eyes, which is why I didn't use it. (A bit like sun cream containing alcohol... stings my eyes like crazy even though it's only near to them... if you see what I mean.)

I'm sure someone who's used the stuff will advise you better. Good luck. Poor chook sounds like she's having a bad time of it.

Thanks suebee.

She mostly gets a viscious peck because she gets in the way and is definitely bottom chook.

The others get the odd peck but tend to "talk" first and then run and so don't get hit as bad.

It's not a boredom pecking fortunately.

I did think maybe I could bandage her face to cover her eyes and then spray her, does anyone know if that would work ?

I'd spray a little into an egg cup or similar then use a cotton bud to dab it on.

Be careful to wear old clothes and gloves though as it smells vile and stains stuff brown. The Nettex one is very good.

I'm glad you said that, as that is what I did once before, but wasn't sure if that was correct.

What about the best time of day to do it though ? Does it really make any difference ?
