Chickendoodle
I was thinking the other day of the varied reasons people get knighthoods and that there are people I think are deserving of one. You can win a couple of gold medals, be able to act, or run a bank and get very well paid for it and get a knighthood. Off the top of my head why haven't these people been knighted Delia Smith - done more for home cooking than anyone else I would say Richard Curtis - founder of Comic Relief, also eminent film director Maybe a bit early but why not Adele - good role model, singer, songwriter, incredibly popular worldwide, good ambassador for the UK, best selling albums etc etc. We have Dame Shirley Bassey after all who hasn't achieved half as much. Gary Barlow - major amount of charity work I know there is some rule that you have to go up the ladder of awards to get a knighthood, which is why Mo Farah didnt get one as he didn't have an MBE Who would you nominate? patsylabrador
For me it would include the following : Bryn and Emma Parry, the founders of Help for Heroes. They've achieved remarkable things and the comfort I drew from them when ES was serving goes beyond anything. Someone who deserved one but has died is Terry Peck, a brave and resourceful policeman who served on the Falklands during the war. Any number of nameless front line medics from so many wars and campaigns. They are so selfless and brave I would knight them all. Bit of a theme there I realise but those are people who have made an impression on me, I might be back with some more but those are off the top of my head. chickencam
Jamie Oliver, Hugh Fearnley Wittingstall for their campaigning for the health and well being of both people and animals, and having the passion to put themselves out there. Chucky Mama
It wouldn't be someone famous. It would be like the 70 year old person who is currently a carer for my 99 year old great grandmother in law and a few other elderly people. She is an MBE but she is an absolute star. I can't speak highly enough of her. There are so many unsung heros working in our communities who are much more deserving of recognition. Many famous people do things because they are given the opportunity. Whilst some celebs do great things, who wouldn't be able to given the backing and opportunity. Chickendoodle
Not sure that Delia or Adele would qualify I admit Adele was a bit tongue in cheek but hey, Shirley Bassey is a Dame ! I defend my choice of Delia. We call her Saint Delia in our house and I credit her with all of my cooking skills as I got married in 1979 and her "How to Cook" series was just starting. I still use the books and my Christmas dinner relies on her. I think she has enhanced many lives. Delia for Damehood
Egluntyne
Not sure you are getting my jokey point. to qualify for a knighthood, you have to be a bloke. I'd go along with Delia being made a Dame. She is known as St Delia at Egluntyne Towers.
