Leicester_H Posted July 20, 2007 Share Posted July 20, 2007 Hi I posted this under Chicken Sitters Area and had a PM to say its a good idea but many people may not have seen it as they don't look there so I've added it here - hope thats OK. In the Wiki (and/or here) could we start a list of people who would be happy to take phone calls from neighbours who are chicken sitting. This would be reassurance for both the neighbours and the holidaying owners. My neighbours are looking after my 2 when we are away. Snowy has kindly agreed that I can give her number to my sitters, in case of a query. I am doing the same for her when she is away. We live close enough that we could pop round if (say) the neighbours can't get a chicken back in the run. ... and just act as a backup, reassurance to neighbours that have never looked after chickens and don't use this forum. ... to say 'yes - thats normal chicken behaviour' or 'that is strange, better consult a vet, call the chicken owners, whatever' As with sitting, agreement would have to be established over dates etc. - it wouldn't be a simple list of numbers for anyone to call Is it worth creating such a list ?? I've added it as a request for the Wiki, but it not been done yet. Maybe if enough people think its a good idea, it will be. Maybe its not necessary/useful ?? Maybe people could be listed along with which area they are in, & any one going on hoilday could PM them before they go away for the phone details? Hen Watch Posted July 20, 2007 Share Posted July 20, 2007 Local telephone number idea is great, as it would be good to have a chicken keeper to speak to, but not sure how you would set it up on the forum... For those chicken sitting neighbours who are online, as an additional idea, perhaps they could log onto this forum. Then they can post "sitter question - help needed in XXXX area" and ask people to post reply or private message them with their contact details should they wish to speak directly.
