Chicken and thunderstorm's

Recommended Posts

Hi there

It rained a little today and my new ex-batts just stood there looking up thinking what the hell??? My question is, if it rains/ thunder ect will they go in the cube or under it to shelter and also in the night if we get thunderstorms will they just sleep through it.?

So many question, please forgive my ignorance:)) X

Hi mine have always just stayed outside and got wet unless it was really heavy rain or hail if they were in the garden. They don't seem to mind but I think some chickens hate it and run for cover. I have a clear waterproof cover on the run so they have the option of keeping dry. I think they sleep through anything in the eglu (and presume cube the same)- similarly fireworks on bonfire night.

Mine get very confused by their roof... When it rains they do head back to the run, but then they get under the roof and its dry so think it has stopped, so go out, and get wrt, so head back, and its dry, so go out.... You get the idea. Have to shut them in for their own sanity - then they sulk!!

Mine survive big fireworks here every weekend. We live on the grounds of a castle that is a popular wedding venue and apparently fireworks are the in thing! Getting very cross, but the girls seem unperturbed.

Mine are the same as AlisonH and good egg above - they used to just stay outside and ended up looking like cartoon chickens with their feathers so wet that all you could see were eyes and bones! Eventually they worked out that they stayed dry if they went into their shelter and now they head straight there at the first sign of rain, coming out to have a look round every so often. It took a while for the penny to drop though!
