gavclojak Posted June 12, 2013 Share Posted June 12, 2013 Good morning i am starting to worry about getting flies in our chicken enclosure, at the moment it has a little grass and i don't suppose that will last long, then it will be just dirt, any recommendations for what to put on the floor of our huge 15 x 15 foot enclosure to minimize flies. i want the girls to be comfy but also don't want to antagonize the neighbour's Thanks XX Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jackian Posted June 12, 2013 Share Posted June 12, 2013 You can take out all food and water and give it a good spray with a fly spray that is safe for pets and keep the chickens out for about 15 minutes ,or what I do is have a hanging basket lined with a Jay cloth and sprinkle in citronella oil which you can buy from a health food shop or on line of course...I got this tip on here a couple of years ago and it does work quite well ,I think people recommend it for mosquitos. Mrs_B Posted June 12, 2013 Share Posted June 12, 2013 I agree with Tweety! I used the Red Top fly trap last year and it was a lifesaver for me! Worked better than sprays or oils.
