Does Anyone get Fancy Fowl Magazine

Recommended Posts

I've just heard of a different chicken magazine called 'Fancy Fowl Magazine' I've looked it up online and it is only available on subscription. I'm tempted but do not want to take out a full year's subscription for something that turns out to be no good / has not got much information for a pet keeper like me who likes pretty chickens of various breeds but is unlikely to go in for showing. Does anyone on here read it and if so how does it compare to Practical Poultry and Your Chickens?

As ever Omleteers' opinions will prove decisive :)

I really like FF; it is much more show-oriented than the others you mention, but what I really like about is that there are interesting and very informative articles different breeds and breeders, and about breeding, colours, genetics etc in general. Indirectly it led to me starting with a rare colour of a breed as well, so I find it quite inspirational. I'm sure you could buy just one copy, on a trial basis, if you explained your position to the publisher :D

I subscribe to it :)

It is quite show heavy so great to see good examples of breeds, find out show results etc.

I'm one of the columnists, writing as 'The Newcomer' and have bought separate issues before, think they're about £3 online.

Update is that I got a few back issues on some breeds I'm keen on (Russian Orlofs, Frizzles and Call Ducks) and I found the illustrations so good (better than those in Practical Poultry or Your Chickens) that took out a year's subscription. The first issue of my new subscription arrived this morning and it was such a lovely surprise to open the brown envelope and find not a bill and not an advertising catalogue that I can't afford but something with some really interesting aricles and super duper chook and duck pix  Can't wait for more :D
