Feathers!

Recommended Posts

Sharona a year old hen has moutled but the feathers are taking forever to grow back. her tummy is bear - applied stockholm tar stuff for protection and checked for beasties - non found. Giving her extra vitamins - she is still laying which worries me as I'd rather her grow some feathers. How long should she be bald for?

One of my ex batts took absolutely ages to feather up properly. At least 9 months. I gave her lifeguard tonic, supplements etc. The others feathered up noticeably in about 6 weeks. My other hens who have moulted a bit have grown back pretty quickly.

I half remember someone telling me on here that if they were put on growers pellets that would stop them laying and allow them to feather up - think someone will need to clarify that as I could have imagined it!!

I've heard that too, but I think its incorrect.

If they need to lay eggs, they will - giving them the correct food will make it easier for them and produce better eggs.
