gavclojak
This may sound like a strange question but here goes, I like to change the cube out on Sundays, I like to give it a good clean and air it out, my girls lay between half ten and three, what happens if they want to lay when I have the cube dismantled? Will they wait? Can they even do that? Or will they just lay regardless? Excuse my ignorance:)
good_egg
Mine are not so precise in their timings and so it seems every time we clean the cube out somebody decides they want to lay!! Mine shout at you a lot if they can't get in. If you shut the door they stand at the top of the ladder and wait impatiently (you can almost imagine them with their legs crossed)... In the WIR if you leave the back or the egg port off they fly in. If you lock them out of the WIR they pace and try and get through the wire. B nearly settled down behind the poo trays that were leaning on the run wall last week but we have never been able to stand the fuss and din long enough to find out if they will actually lay elsewhere! chickanne
Louise was a late layer - so much so I'd given up on her. My brother was working in the garden with the hens "helping" him whilst the Eglu was drying with the top off. He found a warm egg under the hedge with Louise standing by. When we looked at the Eglu there were muddy footprints leading into the wet nest box then out the back! Felt rather guilty that this was her first egg-laying experience. I can always tell when they are asking to lay. At this time of year they have to be in the Omlet netting on the lawn if they are not in their big run else my veggies would be shredded and they all seem to lay during the day. I love watching them waddle down the garden at speed muttering as they go!
counturchickens
After been hassled by my girls whilst mid clean, I now leave it until the afternoon!
gavclojak
Thank you, i was hoping i could maybe delay the egg laying and inevitable egg announce until a little later than 10.30 am on a Sunday morning but think that is not going to happen by the sounds of it neighbors are going to have to close their windows for a few minutes
