mollyripkim
Henrietta has dry yellow flaky skin on her neck and head, new feathers growing but have yellow spot at bottom of feather shaft, she is scratching as the skin looks very dry so I wondered if Vaseline of savelon is ok to use to relieve the itch and dryness. Definitely not mites and all ok in every other way.
mollyripkim
Done some research and wondered if it could be depluming mite (I can't see any mites) so have ordered flowers of sulphur and johnsons mite cream, I will spray her with johnsons spray tonight. Any other suggestions gratefully received.
Luvachicken
I don't know the answer but have been using vaseline on one of my pekins feet and she has been fine. Also when one of my original chook babies had an upset tummy, the vet said to put vaseline on her botty as it was very sore. It does seem to work well but I don't know if you can use it on their skin where feathers are coming through.
mollyripkim
Thank you for that, I'm torn between mite treatment just in case and relieving the dryness for her, although the actual skin isn't red. I don't know, always something to worry about with them.
Luvachicken
Sudocreme is a bit of a miracle worker too, but again, I don't know if you can put it where the feathers are coming. I agree chickens are definitely a worry, but at least we know we do our best for them. I hope you find the answer soon.
The Dogmother
If the hen has skin problems or some sort of depluming mite, then Sudocrem is best
mollyripkim
Thanks Dogmother, I did mite spray her in the end last night and will pop out and get some Sudocrem.
