stacey30
So i have a chicken Rhodes living inside since friday after getting a secondary infection from gapeworm. On a course of antibiotics and I've given her 2 injections on her breast muscle and she's recovered well Fast forward to today and she managed to chomp down a sachet of dog food (not chicken!) and now her crop feels very hard and huge. I noticed this just before tucking her into her basket and got 5ml olive oil in her and a massage. Is it best to see how it digests over tonight and if still full try natural yoghurt tomorrow? Will now feed the dog away from her, Rhodes never showed interest before in dog food and my silly dog just watched her eat it
Olly
Was it 'wet' dog food or dry stuff? Either way I doubt if it will do her any harm - mine regularly tuck into cat food if they can find their way into the kitchen, I hear the sound of a beak tapping on the dish and usually find the cats sitting there looking astonished! pook
A chicken of mine has also scoffed quite a bit of wet cat food before I could stop her - she seem to love it. Funnily enough a chicken keeping friend of mine was actually recommended by a poultry breeder to feed her chickens some cat food to help them lay. I don't know if that's standard! coco
I feed my cats on my front door step as they won't eat inside because of the dogs. One of my pekins Lily regularly chases the cats off and eats the food [wet food]. She has her own little gang of followers now, so its cat food for the chickens before I feed the cats. PoachedPlease
Somehow I wouldn't feel happy eating eggs from chickens who eat pet food. That's not a happy food chain!. Xx

keyhole kate
This is a regular event in my house when an escapee gets into the kitchen once my poor old cat Tetley sadly no longer with us was attacked and chased off by one of my for her dinner Finding them doing a benny hill chase with a mouse is far worse
