redhotchick
Does anyone take part in The Big Butterfly Count? I spotted some Gatekeepers in my garden tonight, I went online to identify them, after taking some photographs, and was reminded of this annual survey. Here is a link http://www.bigbutterflycount.org/ I also checked the collective noun for butterflies, it's a "flight" or a "rabble". *edited to try and get link to work Edited July 18, 2013 by Guest
Charlottechicken
Surely the collective noun should be a "flutter"?? Thanks for the info!
redhotchick
"Flutter" is much nicer! x
redhotchick
Going out to do my butterfly count soon, waiting for a sunny interlude, first glance in the garden there seem to be about 20 butterflies! Painted ladies, peacocks, large white and gatekeepers. I'm going to need paper and pen!
Ain't Nobody Here
I've only had a couple of frantic cabbage whites (?) desperately trying to get at my broccoli plants through the fruit netting. I felt a bit mean but then remembered what they did to my plants last year Made me wonder how on earth they know that is the right plant for them . SarahJo
Just caught up with this - only a few cabbage whites on the buddleia, not seen many other species
redhotchick
I submitted a count 2 weeks ago, if it sunny I will try and do another this weekend. I had peacocks, large white, small tortoiseshell, gatekeepers. A blue one that I couldn't identify, but I have a picture of.
