Sad little Crocus... what should I do?

Recommended Posts

we got Crocus and Phlox last Friday at 12 weeks old, along with Daisy and Coriander the day before. I moved the eglu into the netting alongside the cube on Wednesday in the hope that she might perk up with more shade in the afternoon and evening, but I'm really worried about her.

I know Araucanas are meant to be aloof, but she's really subdued. I can't see anything physically wrong with her but she just seems to be hiding away from the others, in the eglu at the back, head down. she seems really skinny in comparison to the others and head down most of the time. I'm not sure I've seen her eating much in the last few days, and she didn't even react when I put chopped grapes and cucumber in the run this afternoon to try to cool them down.

I can't see anything wrong with her, and although there were two really runny poos in the eglu when I cleaned it out I'm Wednesday I can't be sure it's her that did them.

what am I missing? is it normal for a 12 week old in this heat... or is there something I should be doing?

I'm a bit lost where to start to make her happy, please give me something to try?

If you feel her crop you should be able to tell how much she has eaten. Also just give her a check over (bhwt website has a good examination guideline section). How is she looking? Tail up or down? Comb colour? Etc. doesn't sound normal but could be stress and heat... Do you know what he wormed them with?

Might also be worth trying nutri drops.

I'll fetch her out once the big girls are in bed and have another feel around. she has no comb to speak of yet, I think she's still too little... tail is mostly down, she looks so sad :(

I've just checked online and the kennelgate shop in Nottingham should have nutridrops so we will go get some tomorrow. thank you.

update... I checked both Araucanas once they were in for the night and they feel as scrawny as each other, which must be a good thing, I hope. crop wasn't full but there was something there so I guess she's eating when I'm not looking. Fingers crossed with tomorrow being cooler she's a bit brighter once I've got those nutridrops. do I just drip it into her mouth?

The instructions say to but I find that more stress than good - I tend to put the dose on a treat... Mine get it on a spoonful of tinned tuna (in spring water not brine)... Same as I am doing for antibiotics at the moment.

Fingers crossed they perk her up tomorrow. Have a check over her tomorrow and post anything else you notice. Definitely good idea to compare her to the other one to help.

I use a small syringe to put the nutridrops in.

I use an old towel to kind of wrap them in, kind of like a straight jacket, and just drip it gently at the edge of their beak and they lick it up. Wait until she has licked the first bit and then add a bit more and keep going til it is all gone.

I hope your little one gets better soon xx
