Chickabee
I have a light Sussex reverse. She was in a large run with walk in extension, with my 3 hybrids and white silkie. The hybrids would not stop bullying her, it was constant for 3 weeks. I therefore rehoused her in an eglu with a run, but she doesn't stop pacing. She has a new friend, they're just starting to tolerate each other, but the pacing continues. I know she would love to free range all the time but a. We have had fox attacks so she can't be out when I'm not around. B. she's a whatsname to catch and c. I'm going away shortly so she will need to stay in for a week. Any suggestions please. Ain't Nobody Here
I sympathise . I have a little hen who has been bullied for months and spends her time up on the high planks of the WIR, pacing most of the time. I kept putting her outside (mostly in a little contained area within the main freerange area) and now, at last, the others seem to tolerate her 90% of the time. The pacing has almost stopped too. It may just take time, which is hard I know especially if you're going away. Does she have lots of high up places she can go to get away from the bullies? My girl has never been actually injured as she just keeps away from them.
Chickabee
I don't keep her with the bullies. They were hurting her, making her bleed, and we know hat that can lead to. She had perches when she was in with them, but doesn't now. Perhaps she'll settle soon. I'm hoping she will go broody soon, wouldn't normally say that, but perhaps she will forget her trauma. The new hen that's in with her is young and non aggressive
good_egg
Could it be she can see her old home, nest box etc and isn't used to her new house? Only time I've see mine do this is while we were building WIR, oh and when I have treats and they can't get out...
Chickabee
You could be right. The new run is next to the old one. Do you think she'll get over it or should I move her. Don't want to risk upsetting her anymore
PoachedPlease
My dominant bossy light sussex paces near the door of the WIR most of the time, I think she knows I am in and she wants to go out for a FR. When it's raining she sits on her perch quietly, so it must just be her equivalent of a puppy with its lead in its mouth! Xx
