lash egg , vent gleet

Recommended Posts

Hi

One of my amber links went unwell a bit puffed up when they have a soft egg she went off laying habit just soft eggs then laid this it was kind of soft and rubbery

Not knowing what it was and being concerned took it to the vet he used a scalpel blade and it was a runny yolk he said it had been stuck probably for sometime which made sense she her not laying.

He said she should pick up, given it a week and she was getting a discharge mainly a white crusty material round her vent which smelt . After looking online nearest thing I could find was vent gleet which is a yeast infection

I took her to the vet with not having an improvement and to see what advise for treatment.

They ordered nystatin a anti fungal bacteria, I have also tried Epson salts and warm baths along with yoghurt for gut flora.

I've been told the chicken probably laid a lash egg which is what happens when they stop laying. But she still lays soft eggs daily.

She was only a year old in march seems no age to stop laying.

I'm really confused and would appreciate advise and experience

Hi thanks for replying

I was reading about lash eggs on here then people saying they were laying again think that's why I'm so c confused I spoke to the breeder I got them from that said she won't lay again its what they do at the end when they stop.

They go like that when they have been absorbed more and stuck longer. I've had a chicken lay all sorts and sometimes lay normally then a spell of lashes or chains of egg parts and oddities. As long as it's coming out eventually it wont cause problems. My girl was only a year old when laying went strange, she lived to over 5 :D

Thank you that's reassuring to know ' did your girl have this crusty discharge from her vent? Or is it more likely that she has a yeast infection at same time of laying softies and this lash . Don't think had any softie eggs for a couple days now tho.

She had white urates which is crumbly at times and smells of ammonia. That's different to vent gleet where the smell takes your breath away and is fungal I believe but I've not seen that.

I used to wash her bum and sometimes trimmed a few feathers :? Sorry not much help

Well to me I thought it seemed for ammonia smell then yeasty, its like a double strength tom cat or something her bum red slightly which I assume is from the urine and I don't know whether its just me but been bathing her daily to keep it clean and she's a amber link with white feathers I'm sure the feathers where the liquid runs to has turned the feathers slightly rusty in colour. I've only had chickens since last march . But the white seemed to be like what is with there dropping as its a mixture of the two. She had a lot of build up and was dripping clear liquid regularly which was running from her vent.

If you see one my last topic it was a chicken I had go I'll over weekend she had the white crusty vent which smelt strong of ammonia and she died by morning , why I was so concerned as seemed similar I'm now wondering if she suffered the same but had the lash stuck maybe, I'll never know.
