Lewis
I had a great time at Reading this year! We were working in the 24hour Supermarket so may well have served some of your offspring - tho we ID'd everyone, so no alcohol for the younger teens! We didn't sleep very well as I was on the night shift (8pm-8am) and was too hot to sleep in the days but we used the staff showers every day! Working there meant we could get backstage too so we met Bastille, Disclosure, Sam Smith, Aluna George, Angel Haze, Haim etc I did security stuff there last year and on the whole younger teens are really well look after if there are any problems
Alis girls
I know its a minefield - thanks Lwescott for helping out - you probably did serve him - he eats continually. He was impressed with the security etc and its good to know there are some good folk happy to look after feckless, stupid teens getitng off their faces on god knows what. I too worry re unis, ES was interested in Nottingham but I know the areas gone downhill (and I come from 30miles from there) but I am not bad mouthing the area, I just want him to have his best chances but being safe and before someone points it out - drugs are everywhere, just dont want him to be swamped with them. chickencam
I think that drugs are an issue at most unis, ED said that there were very few occasions when she couldn't smell weed in her halls last year. She has two friends at Nottingham and they seem to have got on fine. I was born there and all. Of my family come from there for generations, I had heard that it was one of the most run down cities now, which is sad. The uni has always had a good reputation though. Alis girls
Yes it is an issue at most places, its a pity about Nottingham was a lovely place to shop years back, however many places go downhill and then with money and good planning become places all and sundry want to live. Look at Brixton and Hackney - house prices are enormous there but there is still a crime and poorer areas but mainly on the up. I hope this will happen to Nottingham. i wasnt knocking it - more worried re outside the campus if my son was travelling etc. Believe me leafy Mill Hill has its problems, they plan to move more problem famillies in. no one wants to live near them so they get "ghettoed". A friend of mine a youth worker was threatened at knife point by some he was trying to help. We just have to hope our youngsters are sensible.
