Sending texts to the wrong person

Recommended Posts

I am making a surprise birthday cake for my friend's surprise 70th birthday party. I sent a text to her daughter to check what colour cake to make and sent it to my friend instead.

Luckily she just thought I had gone a bit potty and as I hadn't mentioned any names in the text I got away with it (I hope) by saying I should have sent it to my ED who is next in alphabet to my friend on my phone. I am always making cakes for people so she would have no reason to suspect.

I also once sent a text to my ED about my YD but sent it to my YD instead. It was nothing horrible, just saying that as YD was a bit down we should try and cheer her up.

I can imagine that great problems can be caused by mis-directing texts. It's that awful moment when you can see it's going to the wrong place but can't stop it. A bit like standing by the shredder and seeing something you didn't want to shred halfway down the teeth

It's surprisingly easy to do ... luckily like you I've only ever sent innocuous messages. I've got a group of friends who all club together for birthdays and so on, and there will usually be one 'open' email chain about the arrangements for the birthday meal, and another one which deals with the present and doesn't include the birthday girl. An urgent text saying 'don't open the email I have just sent you' has been sent, more than once!

My friend at work recently sent a text stating that XX at work had really annoyed and upset her over a disagreement they had about a piece of work. Yes you've guessed it she immediately realised she had actually sent it to XX. Somewhat bravely given the character of XX she decided to meet it head on and went to see him in person to apologise.

Only problem was he didn't receive the text and then took issue both over the fact she had sent it and disputing they'd had the original disagreement in the first place!!!!

Lesson learnt by her friends. I've taken to double checking the recipient and just hope I continue to remember

One of my friends often sent me texts meant for various members of her family, this was normally coincided with her getting a new phone :D

Another friend 'Y' was in a county archery team with two other archers, one of those two who we will call X, sent a text to his partner saying that they were not going to do very well as Y was the weakest link in the team, unfortunately X sent it to Y rather than his partner. There was not a lot of team spirit on the archery field after that, despite the third member of the team trying hard to foster a team spirit. As it turned our Y shot much better than X but Y has not yet forgiven X for his comments. My DS shot in teams for GB and it is vital that the team supports each other and works on the strengths of its members.

I was once in a text conversation with Omlet member Lwescott when my sheep was lambing and he was giving me advice

I somehow managed to send my mum a text describing various developments and the related gunge

However it didnt mention the word sheep anywhere......
