Chickabee
one of my chooks sadly died of cocci a few weeks ago. I don't want to feed my girls medicated feed for obvious reasons. I have read all about it since, and it's recommended to give them OCV , garlic and some kind of tonic/ spice. I already give my exbats the vinegar and spice. I'm not sure how much/ often I should give it. Planning to give it to the 8 non ex bats too. I cleaned everything and used ground sanitizing powder in the house and run that she was in. None of the others have shown any symptoms, but now that I know all the signs I will be to the vets straight away if they do . Also the big girls in the WIR have a galvanised water container, I've read that you can't put OCV in there. Can I put it in their food, or some yoghurt ? debbiedoobs
Hi, we use apple cider vinegar( ACV) in our water fountains and they love it. I use it for a week every 4 weeks, seems to keep them happy and happy tums. You can't use it in the galvanised fountains because of the reaction with the vinegar. I also have a garlic clove in the other water that I leave until it completely dissolves in the water then replace it. They love it too! I've got silkies and they are really fussy with yogurt and refuse it eat it. You can get a tonic to put in their water but again ours don't like it. Never tried them with the poultry spice but from what I've read chickens love it. Hope this helps?... !
The Dogmother
If they've had cocci, then you'd be better off giving them Orego-Stim in the water.
Chickabee
Only one, and she had been vaccinated. The others have shown no sign. It was a few months ago now I think I will get some orego stim anyway, as it sounds like good stuff
Redwing
I would also try something like Orego Stim (there are lots of similar versions) If you were very worried you could give them a one off course of Coxoid (not licenced for chickens) and ditch any eggs for the week, that should offer some long term support
