Exhausted from this chicken keeping

Recommended Posts

I decided that the ex bats coop was too muddy, pooey and smelly. Something had to be done, any straw I put in got scratched out during the day as I leave the coop open. So I have dug out all the poo and mud. Took a trip to local hardware store. Purchased lots of bricks and wooden garden edging. It took me 3 trips from the car to carry the bricks, then another one to fetch the edging. I laid the bricks, making sure to leave gaps for drainage. The girls helped me with everything :wall: . Then I attached the edging ( I have shares in electric cable ties). I then had to move the feeders and drinkers. Got covered in straw and flax core , which I lovingly spread in the coop, whilst the chooks scratched at it! The girls were ever so excited, they now have a fence to jump over to get out of their coop.

It now smells lovely and looks smart. I wonder how long that will last

I can relate to all that as have just spent a Kings ransom fencing my land, now need to look at drainage. Houses badly needing a good clean but my day off tomorrow promises gusts of 70mph so may be just the nestboxes yet....

You fill the houses with lovely fresh sweet straw.......and then they cr#p for Scotland in my case due to the short days in no time.......sheesh!... :wall:
