Festive reads

Recommended Posts

I know we already have a books thread running, but I read in a very different way over Christmas, going back to old favourites time & time again.

I figured others might have festive faves too, which we can recommend to each other (I now have a festive collection on my Kindle!) :D

I tend to go quite chick-lit with my choice of books this time of year, so here are some of my favourite Christmassy books....

They are all pretty cheap at the moment too, on Kindle :-)

'Twelve days of Christmas' by Tricia Ashley.........really nice story & a strong female lead character, which makes a change from the usual drips we get! Started this again last night - its like putting on a comforting fuzzy jumper!

'A Winters Tale' by Tricia Ashley.....a free living, hippyish but broke mum inherits a sprawling country pile. Lovely story, great descriptions of the stately home & how to maintain it.

'A Proper family Christmas' by Jane Gordon-Cumming. Very blackly humorous tale of a family descending on an elderly & reluctant relative. they are all frightful & there is the most amazing cat in this book, who is just brilliant.

Beautifully written book.

'Lost Christmas' by David Logan. I read this the same year it was adapted by the BBC, without realising that it had been (Eddie Izzard starred) Fab book - really unusual & witty.

Well I've just re-read 'All the Birds of the Air' by Alice Thomas Ellis, which is a very short book, and a sort of poignant black comedy about a family gathering for Christmas.

I don't have particular 'festive' reads but I like the idea of building a collection!

Love the Tricia Ashley books - there is also Wish Upon a Star by her which is a lovely Christmas one

I can recommend

Meet Me Under the Mistletoe and

The Christmas Bake Off - both by Abby Clements

The Christmas Bake off is a free taster book for Meet Me Under the Mistletoe

Sleigh Bells in the Snow by Sarah Morgan

Christmas in the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan - although you need to read Meet me at the Cupcake Cafe first

I bet you would love 'A Proper Family Christmas' then :D

Cinnamon, you were right - I've downloaded this and started it on the train this morning, and I'm loving it! The perfect read for this time of year, and it's going to make Christmas with my relatives seem quite benign! Thanks so much for the recommendation
