Knitting, jumper advice

Recommended Posts

Hiya,

So, I'm knitting a jumper with a cable centre, just one cable going up the middle as a feature.

I was going to make it a V neck jumper, but now I am unsure due to the finish. So basically, the V will start and the cable will end abruptly.

I was thinking of doing a round neck instead, as at least I'll be casting off middle stitches so the finish would potentially be less harsh.

This is me thinking aloud now as it's a new experience for me, but would a V look unsightly to the finish? Or would it be ok?

I'm confident about amending the pattern to a round neck if necessary.

Answers on a postcard, all views appreciated :D

It's my own pattern, Plum

I use 3 patterns, a cardy, a chunky jumper and a DK jumper and then I just play around with it

Although I looked at some photos online and was able to work the pattern up the V. I just applied a bit of thought and logic and it worked

Just finished the front now, and it's looking good if I say so myself.

Looking forward to some easier sleeves though

OK, now I have done the V, tomorrow's task is sewing up and finishing the neckline.

Previous jumpers I have done the neckline on circular needles. However, this is not ideal to knit in a round fashion for a V neck.

I've been looking at online tutorials, and have seen a suggestion where you start picking up stitches at the V, pick up the side, around the back, down the other side, then you don't join you kit back and forth and then you sew one bit behind the other bit to get a look like on this photo on this page.

Has anyone tried this method? It sounds easier and that it will make a neater finish, but having not tried it I'm nervous.

What I do know is that I can't do the whole slipping/decreasing centre stitches malarky that I have read in some books as thats just blown my mind!

I know I am a rubbish knitter skills wise, but I do like to knit wearable clothes
