acw295 Posted January 30, 2014 Share Posted January 30, 2014 Hi all, I need to worm my 4 Pekin bantams shortly. How do I know how much feed to mix with the wormer? I haven't got the pre-mixed feed as ours have mash as they don't like pellets and couldn;t seem to get pre-mixed mash. I know the standard guidance is 1kg feed per hen for 7 days but there is no way my little ones eat anything like that amount. I'd be surprised if all 4 of them ate much more than about 1kg in a week to be honest. Only 1 is in lay, we got them in October 2013 and they are still quite little (nicely plump though, not skinny!). Also, what do I do if I need to throw out some of their feed because it has got wet? No matter where I put their feed at the moment when we have heavy rain with wind it is getting wet, as we live on quite an exposed farm. At the moment I empty the feeder and start again - but then I'll be throwing out wormer? I was hoping to wait for a drier spell before I wormed but there is no sign of that happening any time soon! So, how much do your Pekins eat? When dry I top up their feeder with a mug or 2 of mash every day or so and they rarely get anywhere close to finishing that. gavclojak Posted January 30, 2014 Share Posted January 30, 2014 I don't have bantams but I think the idea is mix up a weeks worth of mash as per the instruction and feed normally, making sure they have no treats at all. As long as it is mixed correctly they will eat what they need. I found it easier to do it in a big bowl by mixing the flubervent with 1 cup of mash, when your sure that's mixed add another cup and continue until you have a weeks worth I would top the feeder up with the amount they would eat and just replenish daily. I have been hanging the gravity feeder from the top of the cube run wire under the rain cover so it stays dry ...remember no other treats at all:(( that's the hardest part Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Luvachicken Posted January 31, 2014 Share Posted January 31, 2014 I have 3 pekin bantams and a buff Plymouth rock - she is small too. I have just wormed them and over the 7 days they ate most of the 2kg of pellets mixed with the flubenvet. Their food has been getting wet too but I have managed to overcome this by clambering into the run and fixing the grubs on the run furthest from the rain.
