SarahGlymond
We have a railway line at the bottom of the garden which for the next three weeks is have work done on it. Which means loud horns generators flood lights men shouting all been done at night. Im worried this will affect the chickens in the garden do they get stressed due to lack of sleep or loud noises. They were free ranging this afternoon and they heard a peeping sound and both chooks dashed across the garden in fright. is there anything I can do to make sure they are not stressed how do I know this is stressing them out ??? the noise is loud enough to be heard in the house with all the doors and windows shut its stressing me out never mind the chooks and we aren't getting any sleep either. still getting my two eggs a day so far is that a good sign
gavclojak
Oh bless you, how horrible for you. We had tree surgeons cutting trees down last week and the girls hated it, they remonstrated loudly! I think once they go to roost they will be fine, they don't sleep like you and I, they kind of go in to hibernate state from what I understand. We had ridiculously loud fireworks next door, only feet away from the girls last year several times and they slept through it....I was out checking on them in the middle if the night too!! mollyripkim
Oh poor you, I think they will be fine at night too once they are tucked up for the night. You could try one of the tonics, think lifeguard is recommended for times of stress. I hope they are ok though.

gavclojak
Ah your welcome, I think chickens can suffer from stress but you'll be amazed how quickly they get used to the noise, when the chainsaws and wood cutting lorry were busy doing our tress that week, the girls just stayed under the cube run for the first day, by the second day they were not taking too much notice, Have a nice big glass of red before bed.... Valkyrie
When I helped out at the wildlife rescue place they used to put Bach's remedy drops in the injured animals water just to calm them a bit. But I'm sure the chooks will be fine. In fact I think the hooman pets are in greater need of something when they worry about their feathered owners!
