My girls have a cube and part of the garden fenced off. I am thinking of buying a 2m run so that I can leave the door open at night during the summer. There are 9 of them in the cube and worried that they might get abit hot. Do the ventilation holes give them enough fresh air even in the summer?

Is there anyone that has the maximum number of chickens in the cube and keeps the door shut all year?

If I do get the 2m run will they then be squawking at the run door to be let out into the garden and waking the neighbours up and is it going to be better to keep them in the cube until I get up?

Hi there Christyrose :D Long time no see  Did you sort out your cube roof issues??

I have a 3 meter run for my girls and Mr Max, but I still keep the cube door closed till 7!

I'm sure it would be fine, you could put some perches and feeders and a drinker in there for them then when you up/able let them out.....is that what you're thinking??

Wow you have a good memory :) Yes, the roof has been fine. I was worried that it wasnt fitting properly and that it would bang in the wind but it is so heavy it hasnt been a problem.

I was worried that because there are 9 of them in the cube that they might get too hot during the summer. I've read that alot of people keep the door open all night. But I suppose it is designed to have 10 chickens so the ventilation must be okay?

They are used to coming out of the cube straight into the run and I was just wondering if they would keep sqauwking to be let out into the garden and wake the neighbours up. i wondered if anyone had any experience of this?
