Marriages Pellets with Flubenvet - short expiry

Recommended Posts

I've just received my order of medicated pellets this morning and noticed when reading the 'best by' date on the label that they need to be used before 11th April 2014

I rang the place I bought them from and they said that they only have a 6 week use by date on them as they are a medicated product. I'm slightly peeved as it's going to mean a lot of wastage from a 10k sack. I've always got 2 wormings out of a sack and just presumed that they would have lasted long enough to span that time scale.

I just thought I'd check to see if everyone else chucks away their remaining pellets after one course of worming?

Looks like I'm going to have to go back to buying the powder but it's a much less convenient way of doing it :(

They do have a short shelf life, and there has been a thread on it before. Like you, I've been caught out and now double check the sack before I take it away from the feed merchant, but really I don't think there is much we can do, they are just made like this :(

Regretfully, in your situation, I wouldn't keep the sack its a false economy if it doesn't work, but actually I would stick to the pellets as I find them so much more convenient, even if it cost me more.

We stored our leftover Marriages in an airtight container and used the rest over 4 months after expiry. Seemed to work as there is no sign of worm issues with our Bantams. But there wasn't before and I could easily be wrong?

I perhaps wouldn't take the risk again. They are too precious to us.

Perhaps buying enough birds to eat the pellets in time is the solution? hahaha :lol::lol:

p.s. the cheapest place i found for these pellets delivered was farmandpetplace, I still need to find a cheap supplier of the Heygates version.

 The thought of adding more chickens did fleetingly cross my mind but I've had a firm word with myself

I get mine from farmandpetplace, but I'll look out for the Heygates- not heard of those before

I actually kept using mine for two weeks, which I know is recommended sometimes,so I thought it wouldn't do any harm.I then ditched the rest.I have only 6 now so shall prob go back to powder but it's such a pain.I am always mixing and thinking this isn't done properly and some girlie is going to miss out.
