Laura & CTB
Interesting question! Prada my Amber Star can squeeze between a small brick wall and the hedge where as Gucci the (rather bigger) Sussex cant - she runs up and down trying to see where Prada is and if she's found anything good to eat so maybe she does feel a bit left out. Then of course it might just be motivated by greed ........
pinkkat
I think all animals have feelings that are as important as human feelings, even if they are not exactly the same. Animals act acording to their instinct, and instinct is is pure feeling. A chicken won't sit there and reason the pros and cons of getting out of the run - they do it cos they enjoy it! It's instinctive for a broody hen to sit on eggs and then raise the chicks, but as far as the chicken is concerned they are doing what feels right and makes them happy - don't you think? Any animal mother exhibits distress if their young is taken away - they must feel unhappy to act that way. When humans act on instinct, we do what feels right to us - I think its the same process. Edge Wife
Sometimes my girls have down days: before they started laying each of them would be a bit low for a day or so then they picked up when the egg came. Val also has days hen she wants a cuddle from Edgeman and days when it's the last thing she wants, so she clearly wants comforting sometimes. I do think much of what they feel is motivated by food, but I'm the same so who am I to criticise?
Flo
We have had to keep our two grils seperate for a few weeks, as Mabel pecked Lucy quite badly. Lucy comes inside at night, and last night we didn't properly shut Mabel in. She was up at 5am this morning crowing away, and stopped as soon as I brough Lucy out. You can see that she is much happier when we let her out with Lucy!
pinkkat
I do think much of what they feel is motivated by food, but I'm the same so who am I to criticise? Me too and my greyhound Oz. Pizza makes both of us ridiculously happy!
arowland17
Ours feel left out - if one notices I've sneaked some corn into their run and is pecking away at it, when the other notices it she sprints over to check she's not missed out on anything
