Rosalie
What are people's recommendations for bedding please?
patsylabrador
I've used elephant grass (miscanthus)for a couple or so years now. I like it because it's fairly cheap, a little goes a long, long way, it has a nice fresh smell and doesn't rot. In the winter the run was flooded and I was worried about the chickens getting cold, wet feet so we tipped an entire bale out on the water. It worked, the chickens had a dry if slightly bouncy floor and when it started to get a bit pongy in March it scooped out easily.
Chickabee
I've been trying to get elephant grass for ages. I bet you live miles away from me. It's great stuff. I think all the elephants round hear have eaten it
Chickabee
I use aubiose or similar, but I have a slabbed, covered run. I use shredded paper or soft hay in the nesting box. My exbats don't like paper. They make a proper pretty nest when they have hay Easi chick is good in the covered run too. It comes in handy sized packs of 10kg, bit easier to handle than the big 20kg bags
patsylabrador
We get the elephant grass from Bearsden Pet Supplies near Horsham , Sussex. It's bit of a trek round the M25 tbh but we stock up with a couple of bales, chuck in a pub trip or get a burger at Rykers or if we're feeling crazy , visit MIL.
